Sanibel Island ban on single-use plastic straws


The Sanibel City Council recently approved a Sanibel Island ban on single-use plastic straws.  This eco-friendly decision is in keeping with Sanibel’s long tradition of being a steward of the environment.  There will be a final hearing on August 7, at which time the ban will be signed, and will go into effect 12o days later.  Plastic straws have long been a danger to sea life and contribute to the massive amounts of plastic debris floating in our oceans and piling up in our landfills.  This is a good first step towards more conservation-minded behavior on an Islands where more than 50% of the land is set aside for conservation and preserved for wildlife.  To read more, visit the Fort Myers News-Press article here:
