There are many things to enjoy on beautiful Sanibel Island, but few visitors leave without taking some time to soak up the sun, sea and sand. It’s no surprise – the beaches of Sanibel Island are spectacular fun for visitors of all ages. Plus, each of Sanibel Island’s beaches has a slightly different personality, making it great fun to visit as many as you can. Whether you’re planning to try your hand at some watersports, relax on the sand or look for some of Sanibel’s famous shells, you’ll be spoiled with great options. Sanibel Island is blessed with over 15 miles of continuous, sugary-soft white sand beaches, which are acknowledged year after year as being among the finest beaches on earth. And while there are no bad beaches on Sanibel Island, here are five of the very best.
Gulfside City Park Beach
Best for… relaxing beach days for the whole family
If you want to spend a relaxing day enjoying the beauty of the beach on Sanibel Island, you’ll love Gulfside City Park Beach. Known as Algiers Beach to locals, this gorgeous beach features plenty of dazzling white sand and clear warm water that’s ideal for a refreshing dip. One of the best things about Gulfside City Park Beach is its accessibility. The boardwalk offers convenient access to the beach, while the waters are calm and perfect for children. Even the family dog is welcome here!
Best for… the quintessential Sanibel Island beach experience
In a place that’s brimming with beautiful beaches, Bowman’s Beach is a famous stand-out. One look at it and you’re sure to appreciate why – the glittering sea and sand is sure to tempt you right over for a day of fun in the sun. If you get hungry, head over to the BBQ grills to cook up a tasty lunch, or hit the walking trails if you want to explore the wider area. This beach is popular during peak times and during season, however its size means there’s plenty of space to go around. If you want to be first to get to the shelling, try going early — the beach opens at 7am!
Best for… getting active with fun watersports
What’s even better than a great beach filled with fun activities? Several of them! That’s what you’ll find at the Causeway Beaches, which lead out from the Fort Myers area to Sanibel Island. These beaches are particularly popular for kitesurfing, windsurfing, kayaking and fishing. You also get a beautiful view over Sanibel Island, and, if you’re lucky you might even spot some playful dolphins frolicking in the sea!
Blind Pass Beach
Best for… shelling for those beautiful souvenirs
If you’re looking to try out the ‘Sanibel stoop’ and go looking for some beautiful shells, you’ll want to make your way to Blind Pass Beach. There are a few shelling hotspots on Sanibel Island, but this one is a particular favorite. Even if you don’t find any shells, it’s still a beautiful beach. Although it’s modest in size, the sand is beautiful and the water is crystal-clear!
Best for… nature trails and beautiful views
If your idea of the perfect day at the beach involves a few other activities, then Lighthouse Beach might be just right. This beautiful beach draws its name from the gorgeous lighthouse that was built here in 1884. It’s still standing, and adds additional romance to the scenery and views. As well as the lighthouse, the beach is also surrounded by many nature trails which are great for walkers and cyclists. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for some unique species of birds along the way! It’s a wonderful addition to your Sanibel holiday.
