Sanibel 4th of July

Are you looking for something special to do this 4th of July? If so, get ready for a day of fun and festivities celebrating Independence Day on beautiful Sanibel Island. From the moment the sun wakes up to long after it’s retired for the evening, there are fun things to do for the 4th of July on Sanibel Island.  Let’s take a look!

Free pancake breakfast at the Sanibel Community Church

There’s nothing better to tempt you out of bed than the thought of unlimited, delicious – and free – pancakes. That’s what is on offer at the Sanibel Community Church, who put on a free pancake breakfast from 7:00 am to 9:30 pm. Once the weather warms up, there’s also pops and water.  If you want to miss the crowds that are drawn in by the allure of free pancakes, you could instead head for a delicious fry-up at the Over Easy Cafe.

Independence Day Parade

Once you’ve filled up on delicious pancakes, it’s time to get ready for the annual Independence Day Parade on Sanibel Island. Beginning at 9:30 am, the parade sees colorful floats and characters make their way down Periwinkle Way, not far from the pancake breakfast.

Road Rally

The lively parade is sure to put you in great spirits, but things will only get better if you join in the famous Sanibel Island tradition that is the Road Rally. Every year, locals and visitors alike join this fun event, solving puzzles and hunting for clues all over Sanibel.  The event is put on by the local Optimist Club and all proceeds go to supporting their worthwhile youth projects. While you can sign up on the day (subject to availability), you get a $5 discount if you register online beforehand.

Red, White and Blue in Cape Coral

Phew, after that morning we wouldn’t blame you if you were ready for a nap! Sanibel’s beautiful beaches are certainly beckoning if you want some rest and relaxation in the sun.  If you’re still in the party mood, then you could take the half hour (approx) drive to Cape Coral for their famous Red, White & Boom. Kicking off at 5 pm, there is live music, street food stalls, amusement rides and more.  While they do have their own fireworks at 9:30pm, we recommend heading back to Sanibel Island for the local show.

Fireworks

It wouldn’t be the 4th of July without being awed by some red, white and blue fireworks – and you won’t be disappointed on Sanibel Island. There’s always something special about watching fireworks over the water. The fireworks start at 9 pm and are set off from the end of Bailey Road. The Causeway is always a popular spot for watching them.  For an even more special experience, you might like to spoil yourself with a fireworks cruise. Departing at 7:30 pm from the marina, this is an amazing way to take in the beauty of the show. You’ll also get complimentary snacks and soft drinks for the ride. Plus, you’re welcome to BYOB so you can raise a toast to celebrate Independence Day in paradise!
