Patience Rodriguez named to 40 under 40

Select Vacation Properties Patience Rodriguez selected as one of the Gulf Coast 40 under 40

Sanibel Island, FL –After 20 years in the vacation rental industry on Sanibel Island, Patience Jennings-Rodriguez of Select Vacation Properties has been honored as one of the top 40 most influential business professionals under 40 by the Business Observer.   The 40 under 40 list is published annually and is dedicated to profiling the region’s up-and-coming entrepreneurs and top business leaders.  The annual issue is open to any of the thousands of entrepreneurs, executives, professionals and business leaders under the age of 40 from Polk County to Collier County.  This includes some of the largest markets on the Gulf Coast such as Tampa, Sarasota and Naples.  This is the first time any business professional from Sanibel Island has made the list and given the small size of the Sanibel business market compared to Tampa Sarasota or Naples, being named to the list is even more of an accomplishment.

In some ways, this wider recognition is no surprise as Patience has been well-known in the Sanibel Island vacation rental industry for years as part of the team at Select Vacation Properties.  Select Vacation Properties is one of the premiere vacation rental agencies on Sanibel Island, and has been for over 13 years.  Select Vacation Properties has been featured on Lifetime Television’s morning show The Balancing Act, was recognized as the Best Vacation Rental Agency in Southwest Florida in 2016 and has made the list of the Gulf Coast top 500 companies for the last 3 years in a row.

According to the 40 under 40 nomination, Patience Jennings-Rodriguez earned her place on the list the hard way – she worked for it.  Patience started out in the vacation rental industry at the age of 19 answering telephones, and through diligence, perseverance and hard work, has become well-known throughout the Islands and in the regional real estate industry.  Patience is the Director of Owner and Guest Relations and the senior reservation coordinator at Select Vacation Properties, which Jennings-Rodriguez helped launch in 2006.

Patience was initially lured away from Priscilla Murphy Realty by SVP’s founder, Colleen Anderson, who recognized her potential while both worked at PMR.  Patience, who has the primary responsibility for acquiring and retaining properties, has been instrumental in adding more than 90 units to the SVP rental program; an impressive accomplishment in such a limited market crowded with aggressive competition.

Patience is a primary reason for the company’s immediate profitability in year one, and double-digit growth every year since inception; an accomplishment almost unheard of in this rapidly changing industry, especially with internet giants like VRBO, Expedia and Air BnB spending millions to take over the industry.  She has help to grow the company from a small startup to a multi-million-dollar grossing tourism leader on Sanibel.   In addition to her primary responsibilities, Patience also has a significant role in the development of marketing strategies, social media, web development and other customer-facing components of the company.

Patience was recently tasked with designing a five-year growth and expansion plan for the company and is also an active member and Treasurer of SCVRMA (the Sanibel Captiva Rental Managers Association), a member of SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management), and holds a real estate sales associate license.

Patience is married and the mother of two beautiful children (ages 5 and 7), and when not over-achieving in the tourism industry or raising her family, she still finds time to develop her skills as a photographer.
